Abstract
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of damage of armored endotracheal tube
(AT) according to securing methods.

Materials and Methods : We collected 471 patients who were intubated using AT for general anesthesia. They were divided into 3 groups according to securing methods. In Group A (n = 156), we secured AT in conventional method
in which oral airway was at central position to AT. In group B (n = 158), we secured AT in lateral securing method in
which oral airway was at lateral position to AT. In group C (n = 157), we used bite block securing method in which
bite block was at central position to AT. After extubation, we observed if there were more than 30% irreversible reduction of the AT diameter.

Results: The incidences of damage were 13.4% (21/156), 8.8% (14/158), and 4.4% (7/157) in group A, B, C, respectively.

Conclusion: Securing method with bite block showed lowest damage of AT after general anesthesia. So we considered the choice of securing method with bite block is more desirable to prevent from damage of AT after general anesthesia.
